Austal USA Recognized for Safety Excellence and Improvements by SCA

Mobile, Ala. – For the fifth consecutive year, Austal USA was recognized for having an excellent safety record by the Shipbuilders Council of America (SCA). Austal USA was presented with both the Excellence in Safety and Improvement in Safety award at the SCA Spring membership meeting in May.

“The safety of our employees is our number one concern at Austal,” stated Austal USA President Craig Perciavalle. “To receive this recognition 10 of the last 11 years, it is a testament to the pride exhibited by Austal’s talented shipbuilding team and our priority placed on a safe working environment.”

As a testament to commitment to safety, SCA partners with the United States Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) through the National Alliance program, which promotes continued awareness and training of employees in the industry. The member companies of Shipbuilders Council of America constitute the U.S. shipyard industrial base that builds, repairs, maintains and modernizes U.S. Navy ships and craft, U.S. Coast Guard vessels of all sizes, as well as vessels for other government agencies. The Council represents 41 companies that own and operate over 80 shipyards, with facilities on all three U.S. coasts, the Great Lakes, the inland waterways system, Alaska and Hawaii.

Austal USA has contracts to build 19 Independence-variant Littoral Combat Ships (LCS) and 14 Expeditionary Fast Transports (EPF) for the U.S. Navy.  To date, nine LCS and ten EPF have been delivered and Austal is on schedule to deliver one more EPF and two more LCS before the end of the year.
