Austal USA Sets Record for Toys for Tots Giving
MOBILE, Ala. – Austal USA set a new company record yesterday during its annual Toys for Tots toy drive supporting the Salvation Army, U.S. Marine Corps., and our local communities in Mobile, Ala. and San Diego, Calif.
Understanding the challenges posed by operating in a COVID-19 environment, Austal event leaders set a competitive goal to fill 10 boxes this year, the number of boxes filled in 2019. This year, Austal employees filled 20 boxes and provided over $2,600 in monetary donations. All toys and 100% of the monetary donations go directly to the Salvation Army’s children’s programs.
“Our communities both here in Mobile and in San Diego provide significant support to our workforce and their families,” said Austal USA President Craig Perciavalle. “I’m encouraged by the generosity of our workforce, but not surprised. The men and women at Austal USA have always taken great pride in building ships for our military and giving back to our communities. I’m proud to be part of such an amazing group of individuals.”
The mission of the U. S. Marine Corps Toys for Tots Program is to collect new, unwrapped toys from October through December each year and distribute those toys as Christmas gifts to less fortunate children in the community in which the campaign is conducted.
“Seeing this kind of response from our workforce during such a challenging year is a testament to the character of the workforce we have at Austal USA,” said Napoleon Bracy, manager of Diversity and Inclusion at Austal USA and chair of the Toys for Tots toy drive at the company.
