Austal USA's Barbara Turrens recognized amongst top women in maritime
MOBILE, Ala. – Austal USA’s Barbara Turrens has been recognized by Marine Log Magazine as one of 20 Top Women in Maritime. The publication accepts nominations annually for visionary women in the maritime industry. After receiving nearly 200 nominations this year, a panel of judges in the organization selected Turrens based on her demonstrated leadership, vision, innovation and accomplishments.

When asked what she would tell women looking to enter the maritime industry, Turrens responded, “There are so many diverse areas comprising the maritime industry and each area can hold opportunities for women seeking a challenging and rewarding career. Being a woman is definitely not a limiting factor to success!”
Turrens, Austal USA’s IT Solutions Architect, is a Licensed Professional Engineer with a Doctor of Philosophy – PhD, Systems Engineering, and a BS in Mechanical Engineering from the University of South Alabama. She is an engineering professional with over 30 years of proven success in process improvement, management, and design. Over her 15+ years with Austal USA, Turrens has focused on bringing technology-based solutions and process improvement to a variety of business units within the organization. She has touched almost every stage of Austal USA’s operation from business development through contract negotiation, risk analysis, engineering and design, ship manufacturing, and post delivery services.
