Austal USA recognized for safety excellence
Mobile, Ala. – Austal USA has been recognized by The American Equity Underwriters (AEU) as one of the safest shipyards in the maritime industry. AEU, the leading provider of workers’ compensation for waterfront employers, uses this safety award program as a way to celebrate shipyards that go above and beyond to keep workers safe.
“Austal USA values safety above all else as is evidenced by this award,” commented Austal USA President Rusty Murdaugh. “Our rich history of industry-leading safety performance makes being recognized as an industry-leader immensely gratifying, especially considering the added complexities we experienced this past year including construction of our new steel production line, operating a newly-acquired dry dock at Austal’s West Campus and commencing ship repair efforts, and heightened protocols to protect against COVID 19.”
AEU’s Safety Award program relies on comprehensive grading criteria that provides effective measures for determining incident prevention performance and management-based controls impact on safety outcomes.
“Having a safe work environment where an employee can go home safely to their family is so important,” said AEU Chief Executive Officer Adele Hapworth. “It means a productive company, a successful contributor to their family, and to the community.”
Austal USA has been recognized repeatedly for the company’s proven safe high-tech manufacturing processes. This is the seventh AEU award the company has received, and the 21st industry safety award earned overall, making Austal USA one of the safest shipyards in America.
